Nokia N82: The Shiny Storyteller
Nokia as the trendsetters and makers of quality multimedia phones are making remarkable progress day by day. The company’s idea of separating the hi-fi multimedia microcomputers in a dedicated series was the first step towards making real masterminds, which further gave birth to a new family(series) of phones; The N-series.
Now coming to the real superstar Nokia N82, This monoblock N-series family member is one of the most noticeable among the all other N-series phones. The phone is a WCDMA/GSM monoblock with a 5.0 megapixel Carl Zeiss Optics Tessar™ lens camera, Integrated Xenon flash, a CIF censor camera for face-to-face video calling, Assisted Global Positioning System (A-GPS), Visual Radio, WLAN and TV Output connectivity.
The phone has the dimensions 112 x 50.2 x 17.3 mm, which are quiet enough for this phone to be called “HANDY”, this device weighs 114 grams. The design of the phone is quiet elegant and sensible. The buttons have a metallic texture similar to the phone. The num-pad keys are rather small but they look perfect. The rear of the phone has a lined texture. The surroundings of the main camera have a metallic finish. More importantly the thing which makes this device special is the fact that the Nokia N82 has no predecessors. This is a completely new device combined with quality of multimedia features.
Now coming to the technical view of the dual mode N82,
The mighty N82 is a WCDMA/GSM phone so in WCDMA HSDPA 2100 MHz the phone is capable of transmitting the data upto 3.6Mbps/384kbps, CS max speed 64kbps.
N82 got the Dual Transfer Mode (DTM) support for simultaneous voice and packet data connection in GSM/EDGE networks.

That’s the technical stuff now coming back to glitz ‘n’ glamour of the style icon N82. This is Symbian device with Symbian 3rd edition. Nokia N82 has a 2.4” LCD QVGA (240 x 320 pixels) TFT color display which can display upto 16.7 million colors. The phone has two cameras, the front camera is a CIF (352 x 288 pixels) sensor for video telephony. The rear camera is a 5.0 megapixel autofocus (2592 x 1944 pixels) combined with Carl Zeiss Optics for sharpest and crispiest photography and video capture. The focal length of the rear camera is 5.6 mm and the focus range is from 10 cm to infinity. The macro focus distance is from 10 to 50 cm. The camera features white balance: automatic, cloudy, sunny and load of other modes to meet the needs. Amber colored auto focus assist light and recording indicator are also there to assist in every way. If we just move to the darker side of the story, The N82 has a Xenon flash to put some light even on the darker side of the story. N82 is also capable of video recording in MPEG4 VGA (640 x 480 pixels) @ up to 30 fps scaled to QVGA on device or VGA in TV-out mode. The ability of Full-screen video playback to view downloaded, streamed or recorded video clips. Supported video formats: MPEG-4, H.264/AVC, H.263/3GPP, Real Video 8/9/10. The phone is capable of automatic screen rotation in camera, web browser and Real One Video Player. N-series N82 contains 100 MB of internal dynamic memory (phone memory) for messages, images, ringtones, calendar notes etc. The memory finally finishes up with the microSD memory card slot to avail large memory pool.
As the device is from the N-series family, it definitely got a music player which supports MP3/AAC/eAAC/eAAC+/WMA/M4A with playlists. OMA DRM 2.0/1.0 & WMDRM support for music is also there. The phone has a stereo handsfree speaker and an FM Radio too. So musically this shiny gem is polished all the way.
The phone has an HTML browser in fullscreen mode which allows the user to have a rich and broad-view of the web pages. The phone supports common email clients with attachment support. The phone also supports Java Script and Java MIDP 2.0, CLDC 1.1 (Connected Limited Device Configuration) & J2ME. So new applications and games can be easily installed on this device.
Now, the GPS feature is one bigger feature for such a handy masterpiece. Nokia N82 has Integrated A-GPS (Assisted Global Positioning System) with fixed maps. More maps can be downloaded.
However, this phone is a totally sensible and elegant device with all necessary and complex features to cover the story.
